A single girl’s guide to Valentine’s day celebration

Valentine’s day is just around the corner and the outlets and malls are all decked up for this D-day. The couples have their to-do list handy with them, but what about the plans if you are single, or should I say happily single!

First of all, just because you're not seeing someone doesn't mean you can't think about Valentine's Day. I know how it feels to see your Facebook wall full of PDA and those so-much-in-love status updates by couples all day.

But as the great Carrie Bradshaw said, “Being single used to mean nobody likes you. But now it means you’re pretty sexy and you are taking your time deciding how you want your life to be and who you want to spend it with.”

My girlfriend is single, but so much fun to be around that if given a choice, I’d spend my Valentine’s Day with her. Shhh…! And her excitement for Valentine’s day is worth watching, when she dresses up to nine and moves in her own way giving all the committed girls a run for their money.

This year, ditch the clichéd traditions for couples, and find something interesting for yourself on Feb. 14. Get into that ‘in a relationship with myself’ mode and claim your Valentine's Day!

Defy Cupid by indulging in these seven solo pursuits, that my girlfriend has done!

Date the Iron man!

Or may be Johnny Depp or Ashton Kutcher, and spend the Valentine’s night with your ultimate celeb crush. Get access to a handful of his movies and treat yourself to some real good feast for eyes and umm…mind. *Wink.

Anti-Valentine’s day party

No flowers, no cards, no teddies, no pinks or red, just some good friends, believers of #GoSolo and let the happiness (and drinks) flowing in. You can go extra miles with "Happily single, not ready to mingle” theme and use all black decorations. You can also create a playlist with songs like "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" or "Holding Out for a Hero”.

Date yourself

The best part about V-day is less crowded spas and salons…with most visitors busy with their partners. Ahem Ahem! Give yourself some credits for being this amazing and pamper yourself (along with some of the singles club members) to something like an exotic spa, a blow-out at salon, a facial.

#GoSolo

Use this day to plan a special trip to some place that you've always wanted to visit. Let this be as dramatic as a cruise or as simple as a weekend trip, the ultimate motive being to just do something you and only you want to do.

A comedy show

Indeed laughter is a therapy and it gets better when you can simply concentrate on the stand-up comedian in front of you rather than focusing on someone by your side. My girlfriend went to one such show and the comedian asked why she has arrived all by herself, to which she replied that she’s here to meet him. Needless to say, she had an amazing evening with that stand-up comedian.
